Signs Your Gutters Or Fascias Are Failing
Your gutters only get noticed when they stop working. A look outside when it rains tells you most of it. Ring us if you see any of these on your house.
- Water pouring over the front - your gutter has dropped, or the roof edge is no longer feeding it.
- A drip from one joint - a perished seal on your gutter that will only get worse.
- A sagging run - brackets on your house have pulled out, often because the board behind is soft.
- Peeling paint or soft wood - your fascia or soffit is taking in water and starting to rot.
- A green or dark streak on the wall - water from your gutter has been running over the brickwork for some time.

Common questions
Guttering Questions
The common causes are a run that has dropped out of level, too few downpipes for the size of roof, or tiles and felt at the edge that no longer feed water into the gutter. We check each of these on your house and tell you which it is. A blockage is the other common cause, and unblocking is not work we take on.
The gutter has to come off to get at the fascia, so the two are normally done together. Sound gutters can often go back on the new board. We will tell you if yours are worth refitting.
Replaced. A plastic cover over rotten timber hides the problem and leaves your gutter brackets fixed to wood that keeps decaying. We take the old board off and fit a new one.
A leaking joint, a loose bracket or one cracked length is a repair. Gutters that are brittle, warped or leaking along their whole run are better replaced. The free roof check tells you which yours are.
The fascia is the board along the edge of your roof that the gutter is fixed to. The soffit is the board underneath, between the fascia and the wall. Both keep weather and birds out of the roof edge.
